Severe thunderstorm warning issued for GTR area

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the following counties: Clay, Lowndes, and Oktibbeha until 3 p.m.

This includes West Point, Starkville, Columbus, and Columbus Air Force Base.

NeMiss: Flash flooding possible tonight

Very heavy rainfall will cause flash flooding in some locations across the Mid-South today and tonight, particularly east of a Dresden, Tenn., to Burnsville, Miss. line. 2 to 4 inches of rainfall may occur in some locations within 1 to 2 hours.

GTR: Isolated severe storms possible tonight

Isolated severe thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph will be possible today and this evening generally along and north of a line extending from Jonesville, La. to  Macon. Strong thunderstorms capable of producing small hail and wind gusts ranging from 40 to 50 mph will be possible today and early this evening south of this line.

NeMiss: Short Term Forecast for Thursday night

This short term forecast is for the following counties: Alcorn, Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Coahoma, Crittenden, Cross, Desoto, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Monroe, Panola, Phillips, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, St. Francis, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union and Yalobusha.

Scattered showers will continue to push east across portions of northern Mississippi. Showers will remain light with additional rainfall amounts around a tenth of an inch or less with isolated higher amounts.

NeMiss: Flash flood watch in effect until Thursday evening

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a flash flood watch from 7 p.m. until Thursday evening for the following Mississippi counties: Alcorn, Benton, Calhoun, Chickasaw, Coahoma, Desoto, Itawamba, Lafayette, Lee, Marshall, Monroe, Panola, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Quitman, Tallahatchie, Tate, Tippah, Tishomingo, Tunica, Union and Yalobusha.

Widespread heavy rainfall of 2 to 4 inches with locally heavier amounts above 5 inches can be expected over the warning area tonight through Thursday afternoon as numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop and move over the same areas.
